How We Choose and Compare Wheelchairs

MobilitySavvy helps you narrow down wheelchairs and mobility scooters before you buy. Here is exactly how our recommendations are made, including what we don't do.

What we do for every model

  1. Collect the specs from the manufacturer or store. Weight, weight capacity, seat size, folded size, range, battery and frame material. When a weight excludes the battery, we say so.
  2. Read verified buyer feedback. We look for patterns (breakages, battery complaints, customer service problems) and ignore reviews that look incentivized.
  3. Compare against a 12-point checklist, with safety weighted highest:
    • brakes and anti-tip stability
    • frame material and build
    • real weight, with or without battery
    • folded size
    • weight capacity
    • seat sizes
    • comfort features (cushion, backrest, armrests)
    • tires and ground clearance
    • battery and airline rules (electric models)
    • warranty
    • spare parts and support
    • verified buyer feedback
  4. Name a best use for each pick, and list its drawbacks next to its strengths.
  5. Update the pages when specs or models change, and show the last-updated date.

What we don't do

  • We don't use every chair ourselves. Most recommendations are based on the research above. A review based on personal use says so clearly at the top.
  • We don't accept payment for rankings. Commissions never decide which model is ranked first. See our affiliate disclosure.
  • We don't give medical advice. For a fitting or a prescription, talk to your doctor, physical therapist or occupational therapist.

Spot a wrong spec or an out-of-date price? Tell us and we'll check it and fix the page.
